It is highly recommended to create a Sender Policy Framework (SPF) record with your domain name registrar to ensure that all your emails get delivered properly. An SPF record will ensure that emails sent from the specified domain are not marked as spam by email clients. It can be done quickly, in a matter of minutes, by modifying your Domain Name System (DNS).
And here's how you do it:
- Go to your domain registrar's website.
- Login to the domain control panel.
- Open your DNS configuration settings.
- Edit your ZONE File and look for TXT or SPF record.
- Specify the following value: v=spf1 include:_spf.instocknotify.com ~all .
- Save your changes.
But what if an SPF record already exists? (most domains will already have one)
You can just include our SPF data in the same line as your existing record
v=spf1 include:spf1.domain.com include:spf2.domain2.com include:_spf.instocknotify.com ~all
You should now be able to send emails from your InStockNotify account without any difficulties. In case you are unable to get the SPF set up, here are more specific instructions with respect to each provider. Make sure you remember to use the right value before saving your changes.
How do I check my SPF record?
Each SPF record will be a bit different, but you should check to make sure you've got it right. Here are some tools that can help validate your records:
- Scott Kitterman’s SPF Testing Tools - Check to see if an SPF record already exists for your domain, check its validity or test its performance.
- OpenSPF.org - Review a series of forms and email-based testers.
- SPF Record Check - The SPF Record Check acts as an SPF record lookup and validator. It’ll lookup an SPF record for the queried domain name and run diagnostic tests against the record, highlighting errors that could influence email deliverability.
- SPF Wizard - SPF Wizard is a browser-based SPF record generation tool. Fill out the form and the site generates an SPF record for you.
